5 Books Every Entrepeneur Should Read

SEO Tactics You Shou-3
1. Mark Divine – The Way Of The SEAL

markdivineMark Divine was living a successful life as an accountant, but he always felt that the corporate life wasn’t for him. He decided to pursue a life as a Navy SEAL. He made it. But if you think that’s cool, that’s not all.

This is an action book. It contains many lessons on leadership, how to turn your plans into reality, how to get people to see your vision,  mind exercises that he learned from his experience with the SEALS and karate – and so much more.

I found it to be inspirational but at the same time i picked up a lot on strategy and overcoming and recognizing “bumps in the road” (or weathering the toughest storm).

In short, go read this book. Your life won’t be the same after you’ve read it.

2. James Altucher – Choose Yourself

chooseyourselfbookJames writing style is unique. It grabbed me. I read this book in one weekend. This is the story of a person who got rich, went broke, got rich again, went broke again and then got rich again.

But this book is mostly about choosing yourself. Not waiting for permission. Cutting out the middle man. He explains why it’s your only choice. As he puts it:

The middle class has caved in, jobs are disappearing and every industry is in the process of transformation. In order to keep up, individuals must change also.

This book is bold. But the things he talks about are already happening.
Are you ready to choose yourself?

3. Joseph Sugarman – Triggers

TRIGGERS!Do you want to improve your selling skills? Joe sugerman is one of the greats.

What i really like about this book is that it is very easy to comprehend. Anyone who reads this book will pick up something that could have an enormous impact for his or her business.

One example of these triggers is called objection resolution.

— Joe was selling an ion generator, those things that produce negative ions and clean the air. It looked sleek, but right in the middle there was a piece of metal that looked like steel wool. It was ugly, and it stood out.

But instead of not mentioning it in his ad, he simply named the headline “Miracle Fuzz” – and by doing this transformed a negative thing to a positive thing. A miracle even (if you’re wondering, it sold great) —

I hope this nugget will nudge you to read this book. I look up to Mr Sugerman. A salesman who speaks from experience, and he provides the examples for each of the triggers from them.

4. Ann Handley -Everybody Writes

everybody-writesThe title says it all. If you are an entrepreneur, you have to write a lot. If you do all the blogging, e-mail marketing, SEO and much more yourself – you might want to consider reading some books on writing.

I have read a number of books on the subject, and not every book was worth it for me. But this one is modern, and breaks the whole process down for you. This is a book to keep on your desk.

Read it and you will instantly write better. 🙂

5. Robert B. Cialdini – Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion

71FDaBi9zaLThe first book i read about persuasion ever. I was in for a shock. It was then that i realized how often we are being persuaded and that there is very little we can do about it.

Robert B. Cialdini lays out six principles of persuasion:

  1. reciprocity
  2. scarcity
  3. liking
  4. authority
  5. social proof
  6. commitment/consistency

The six principles are explained in the video below.

This is a classic, and everyone in marketing or business should have read this book at least once to get an understanding of ethical persuasion. (Triggers + Influence is a lethal combination)
